The Life of a Supreme Court Counter-Clerk

Mark Campisano

Have you ever wondered what life is like for a Supreme Court Clerk? What about a clerk hired by a Justice with opposing views, a.k.a., a counter-clerk? Join us as we host Mark Campisano, former clerk to Justice William J. Brennan, Jr. as he shares some inside baseball with us. Mark will review the general qualifications for the position, how clerks are chosen, the work styles and interactions of several of the Justices, some anecdotes about life at the Court, as well as some noteworthy cases he worked on while there.

Mark is currently a Vice President for tax matters at Pacific Life. Previously, he was head of tax for TIAA-CREF. He has worked in various other positions practicing tax law, including as in-house tax counsel at McKinsey and Company. He holds an A.B. from Harvard College, a M. Litt. From Oxford University and a J.D. from Yale Law School.
