Reflections on the Clinton Impeachment Trial— 20 Years Later

Hon. James Rogan
Judge of the California Superior Court

On January 3rd, the 116th Congress was sworn in. Without hours, new articles of impeachment against President Trump, which had also been introduced in 2017, were reintroduced. The twentieth anniversary of the President Bill Clinton impeachment trial was recently observed. Join us as we host Judge James Rogan, former Congressman and one of 13 floor managers of the Clinton impeachment trial, to reflect upon that experience and lessons learned from it.

We are honored to have Judge James Rogan, who has a long and distinguished career in public service, join us. Starting as a L.A. County deputy district attorney, where he spent 5 years prosecuting criminals in the “Hardcore Gang Murder Unit,” he was appointed to the L.A. County Municipal Court, eventually becoming presiding judge. Next, he was elected to the California State Assembly, becoming Majority Leader two years later. From there, he went on to serve two terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. During the administration of President George W. Bush, was appointed to head up the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. After public service, he worked in private practice, taught law at Chapman University, and in 2006, was appointed to the California Superior Court, where he currently serves in Orange County.

Judge Rogan is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and obtained his J.D. at U.C.L.A. Law School, where he was a member of the law review. He is the author of three books - Catching Our Flag: Behind the Scenes of a Presidential Impeachment; And Then I Met…, and Rough Edges: My Unlikely Road from Welfare to Washington.
