Religious Liberty: A Travelogue

PLEASE NOTE THE LOCATION CHANGE TO THE EQUINOX SPORTS CLUB IRVINE
The Federalist Society of Orange is honored to have Professor David Forte, renowned expert on Islamic law and religious liberty, join us on Friday, February 7th.  Professor Forte will speak about "Religious Liberty: A Travelogue".

The notion of religious freedom as we have come to know it in America is the product of an historical journey through six centers of civilization: Jerusalem, Athens, Rome, Geneva, Edinburgh, and Philadelphia.  Reviewing that trip, we shall be reminded why religions must have institutional autonomy from overreaching positive law intrusions, such as the "Obamacare" mandate that requires either direct or indirect health coverage for contraceptives and other related items.

Professor Forte is Professor of Law at Cleveland State University, where he was the inaugural holder of the Charles R. Emrick, Jr.- Calfee Halter & Griswold Endowed Chair.  He holds degrees from Harvard College, Manchester University, England, the University of Toronto and Columbia University.
